Handrail work at The Dalles parking area; Building 2 roofing continues

Here's what's planned for September 14–18, and what to expect as the work moves ahead. With ongoing handrail work at The Dalles parking area this week, watch for signage and crew directions. Expect roofing noise at Building 2 and handrail work near The Dalles parking area. Summer construction is nearly complete.

• Roof, Building 2: roofing installation Monday through Saturday, with sheet metal at Buildings 2 and 4 Monday through Saturday. Hot tar will only occur after hours and on weekends, and the skylight is scheduled for delivery Sept. 17 and 18.
• Elevator: making corrections from last week's inspection.
• Site and paving: handrail fabrication and installation at The Dalles parking area, Monday through Friday, and the new walkway to Building 5 concrete ramp handrail, Monday through Friday.
• Building 3 staircase replacement: complete.
• Wayfinding: in permitting with the city, and Tube Art is producing the signage.

Building 2 roofing, handrail work and paving continue

Roofing, paving, and elevator work continue across campus. Here's what's planned for September 7–13, and what to expect as the work moves ahead. Handrail, ramp, and generator pad work runs at The Dalles parking area and the Hood River Center Tuesday through Friday, with striping following Thursday and Friday. Watch for signage and crew directions. Expect roofing noise at Buildings 2 and 4, and construction activity near The Dalles parking area and the Hood River Center this week.

• Roof, Building 2: tear-off Tuesday through Thursday, roofing installation and sheet metal Tuesday through Saturday, and lower HVAC curb work Thursday and Friday.
• Roof, Building 4: roofing installation Friday and Saturday, sheet metal Tuesday, and stucco repair Friday and Saturday.
• Elevator: final inspection Tuesday, Sept. 8.
• Site and paving: handrail fabrication and installation at The Dalles parking area and Alt. No. 3, and Alternate No. 4 concrete ramp prep and pour, Tuesday through Friday, then striping at Parking Lots #1, #2 and #4 and The Dalles parking area, Thursday and Friday.

Elevator final inspection; excavation and rock at The Dalles parking area

Roofing continued at Buildings 2 and 4 while site crews worked at The Dalles parking area and across the Hood River Center. The elevator reached final inspection.

Grinding and paving prep at Parking Lots #1, #2 and #4

• Elevator modernization: punch list this week, with the crew demobilizing the week of Aug. 24.
• Site and paving: grinding at Parking Lots #1, #2 and #4 Monday and Tuesday, paving prep at those lots Tuesday through Friday, and excavation and rock at The Dalles parking area beginning Friday.
• Hood River Center: crack seal, sealcoat, and stripe Thursday and Friday.
• Coming the week of Aug. 24: Building 2 sheet metal, Building 2 HVAC, Hood River pressure wash, and the Hood River generator pad.

Repaving at The Dalles parking area; east stair wraps up

Paving crews are scheduled at The Dalles parking area and Parking Lot #3 Monday through Friday. Expect continued detours and limited parking in that area through the week. The east stair replacement finishes and that crew demobilizes Thursday.

• East stair: tread and landing grating installed Monday and Tuesday, riser faces Tuesday, cleanup Wednesday, and the crew demobilizes Thursday.
• Elevator: final inspection is scheduled this week, with the punch list to follow the week of Aug. 17 and the crew demobilizing the week of Aug. 24. Dates are tentative.
• Roof, Building 2: roofing installation continues Monday through Saturday, with tear-off work carrying into the following week.
• Roof, Building 4: roofing installation finishes Friday, with sheet metal installed Monday through Friday.
• ADA pathways and parking: asphalt paving and striping at The Dalles parking area and Parking Lot #3, Monday through Friday, and concrete installation at the parking area on Monday.
• Hood River Center: pressure washing begins Friday, continuing the following Monday.

Parking Lot #3 closes as paving and painting begin

Parking Lot #3 closed Tuesday, Aug. 4 while crews grind the lot ahead of repaving on Monday, Aug. 10. The main drive aisle to Parking Lot #2 stays open.

• East stair: second-phase sandblasting Tuesday, then painting of all components Wednesday through Friday. Expect noise Tuesday.
• West stair: joint sealants at the brick veneer column Wednesday.
• Elevator: demolition of the existing equipment.
• Roof, Building 2: torch-down built-up roofing on the lower roof sections at the Bookstore, with tear-off continuing on the upper roofs.
• ADA pathways and parking: concrete continuing at The Dalles parking area, the stairs, and the Building 5 ADA work, plus grinding and paving at the parking area and Parking Lot #3.
• An existing utility conflict along The Dalles Pathway and the ADA path from Building 3 to the connecting path is still being resolved and may affect the schedule.

Stair steel, elevator fixtures, and campus concrete

Four projects are active in the field at The Dalles Campus this week.

• East stair: joint sealants at the brick veneer column, new tread support angles, and new steel tied into the existing structure, with second-phase sandblasting Friday.
• Elevator: hall fixtures, hall door equipment, car door equipment, and car fixtures being installed.
• Roof: Building 4 being completed and tear-off underway at Building 2.
• ADA pathways and parking: concrete at Buildings 2 and 4, a valley gutter and curb pour, and concrete work in The Dalles parking area.

Stair demolition and elevator equipment set

A crane lifted new equipment into the elevator equipment room as stair demolition advanced.

• West stair: joint sealants at the brick veneer column.
• East stair: pan deck cuts, temporary fencing and storefront protection, beam install, sawcutting, first-phase sandblasting, and top-down demolition of stair pans and landings.
• Elevator: governor, pit equipment, and hoistway equipment wrapped up; hall fixture installation began.
• ADA and parking: Building 1 ramp concrete and sitework, Building 4 ramp demolition and sitework, and parking lot base and paving.

West stair finished as elevator machine is set

Stair and elevator replacement work spread across campus, with crews mobilizing from the west staircase to the east.

• West stair: treads and risers installed, brick cleaned and repaired, and crews mobilized to the east staircase.
• East stair: work plan laid out with temporary fencing, protection, and interior walls so occupants would not exit through the work zone.
• Elevator: new machine and rope mounted, new controller mounted and wired, governor set, and pit and hoistway equipment installed.
• ADA: continuing concrete at Buildings 2 and 4 and The Dalles parking area, plus underground utility work by Building 3.

Signage awarded and ADA work moves to the field

The program shifted from design into procurement and field work across several projects.

• Wayfinding signage advanced to fabrication, with a notice to award issued and an additional-services amendment approved to extend interior signage programming.
• The campus ADA accessibility improvements reached a pre-construction milestone with the civil and survey teams.
• Monthly billing and schedule-of-values reviews established for consistent, transparent reporting.

Roofing package advances to bid

End-of-month updates were presented to the Board through the spring as key packages advanced.

• The Dalles Campus roof project reached 100% construction documents and went out to bid, with addenda issued to bidders.
• Wayfinding design and additional-services approvals moved forward.
• Civil design services engaged to support site and accessibility work.

Design underway across priority projects

With contracts in place, design teams began developing the first bond-funded improvements and the program settled into a steady monthly reporting rhythm.

• Design meetings launched for early priority projects.
• A year-end program update was issued summarizing progress to date.
• Alternative contracting method findings completed to enable efficient project delivery.
